| Question / Answer |
What does Klein provide as part of its usual installations?
We typically provide and install our software application, configure the server and workstations, provide user training and support our application. We do not usually provide or support hardware, operating system software or the database software (i.e. MS SQL) although we can work with local vendors to arrange supply and support of these components. Ultimately we want to ensure that you have a successful working system in place and will work with you to ensure that all aspects of the implementation and support are satisfactorily addressed. |
What databases do your applications work with?
We typically work with Microsoft SQL for our installations but our applications are database independent and can be installed with Oracle or other SQL databases. |
We are just a small pilotage operation. How do we justify the expense of a system like Klein’s?
We would be pleased to help you run through a cost/benefit analysis to assess the advantages. Just the improvement in cash flow and improved accuracy of job tracking and invoicing may be able to justify the investment. |
We have remote users. Can they access the system via the Internet?
Klein’s applications use client-server architecture with client to server communication effected via TCP/IP. This allows remote users to fully access the system securely ( including 128 bit encryption) via the Internet with minimal degradation in performance provided they have a broadband connection (ADSL or cable). They only need to have the client installed on their PC. Alternatively, access can be enabled using Windows Terminals Services© which does not require the remote client installation. Web applications enable limited functionality (i.e. vessel status reports, notice of requirements submission) to be accessed using a standard browser. |
Why do you not use web browser access for your entire application?
Klein’s applications use client-server architecture via TCP/IP. Current browser technology does not meet our performance standards for the user interface. Klein’s client offers a tremendous range of user configurability which is not practical in a web application. |
